Senator David Brock Smith is a third-generation resident of Oregon’s South Coast. He grew up in Port Orford and is a graduate of Pacific High School. After attending SOCC and SOU, Senator Smith worked in the culinary industry, in some of the best restaurants in the Rogue Valley, before moving back to Port Orford and taking over his family's 45-year Restaurant and Lounge.
Sen. Smith has an extensive Public Service background, and proudly served the citizens of Port Orford for many years as their City Council President, and Chamber of Commerce President/Director and on the Port Orford-Langlois School Board. He is also the former Chair and Vice Chair of the Curry County Board of Commissioners, where he served on many Boards and Committees. Senator Smith also served various roles with the Association of Oregon Counties, on their Board of Directors and Legislative Committee, as well as the District 4 Chair, representing Curry, Coos, Douglas, Josephine and Jackson Counties.
Senator Smith has current positions with the Pacific NorthWest Economic Region, Oregon’s Coastal Caucus, the Sudden Oak Death Task Force, and the Climate Change Commission along with many other affiliations. Senator Smith served as an Oregon House Representative for six years before his appointment to the Senate in January 2023. He is honored to represent the constituents of Oregon Senate District #1, which encompasses all of Curry, and parts of Coos, and Douglas counties.
